Do you think people should read the news to know what is happening around the world even if it may have nothing to do with their personal lives? [2024.04.13] [2024.03.16]

1、考情解析

有关注并练习过今年Task1考题的同学一定会感到非常惊喜，因为这恰好是一个月之前考察的原题。T1考题以旧题为主，需要重点关注过去三年的题，本年内已经考察过的题目也是不容忽视，去年97场考试中，也有17场考试重复了当年的原题。

这道题难度不高，正反面都能较为容易的展开，但这里还是推荐“反对”，因为可以和我们的万能话题“Time”相结合。

2、Sample answer

I don't really feel like it's necessary to keep up with the national news every single day. I mean, many of us now have 9-to-9 jobs. We're all overwhelmed by work and busy in dealing with our own stuff. Sparing even 30 minutes for tracking news feels like a stretch. People would rather be concerned about own lives and the person we’re with, especially during the economic downturn. Besides, a lot of that news is too distant and even negative – mostly political issues and wars happening far away. Some war news even can be a little anxiety-provoking. For example, my parents have been worried the fighting in neighboring regions would spill over into our own country.

教授：在水污染治理问题上，相比企业政府等大型组织，个人能做多少？

1、题目解析

这个题目是2024年第十七场线下托福考试，是一道环境类的新题，和此前的题目2023年12月17日真题——个人和工厂谁应该对污染付更大的责任——比较相似。水污染问题严重，塑料，工业废水，生活垃圾都污染了水源。在水污染治理问题上，相比企业政府等大型组织，个人能做多少？题目问法暗含审题陷阱。如果我们只说个人和组织的能力大小对比，而没有提到主题“水污染防治”，那么算偏题。如果只写了个人的能力和行动如何影响水污染，而没有和大型组织做比较，那么也算偏题。

（引入反方作对比）When it comes to the treatment of polluted water, some people may claim that unlike large institutions with huge investments and great impacts, individual contribution is relatively negligible（微不足道的）. （表达立场）However, we should not underestimate the role of everyone's potential and effort. There are many actions the public could take so as to reduce water pollution. （分论点1）One way is by picking up litter when spending time on beaches or near riverbanks. This simple action can prevent plastic waste from entering waterways. （分论点2）In addition, consumer choices can also have a significant impact on manufacturers' practices. By shunning（故意避开） companies whose production processes are not environmentally-friendly, consumers might drive an industry reform. That is to say, under the effect of consumer preferences, tech companies constantly dumping effluent into the river will eventually lose the market while companies which prioritize environmental responsibility will win the market favor（赢得市场青睐）. （分论点3）Last but not least, it is also important to recognize the power of media influencers, whose voices can help raise awareness and promote positive environmental behaviors among their followers. Thus, I believe individuals have the same impact as policy-makers. (179words)
